More Local Energy Retrofit Work
8 School Buildings, almost a million square feet and a complete redesign of many antiquated HVAC and lighting systems. There’s a little work left to do coming up in the Summer of 2013. These HVAC systems are ground source heat pump systems, using the natural aquifer to boost energy efficiencies. In the cases where these systems replaced electric heaters, the energy use will drop to 1/4 of what was used before. This is by virtue of every HVAC engineers’ best friend, thermodynamics and the environmentally sound R410A refrigerant cycle. Plus the fresh air ventilation systems were brought up to code- which just might bring the test scores up a notch too! Of course the usual array of energy conservation techniques where employed; efficient lighting upgrades, better control systems and energy recovery units. Not unlike the projects I have been doing for the last 30 years, its just that the equipment keeps getting better and energy more expensive.
